Sunday Open Report – Philpott Double at Star Pelaw, Action from Towcester
Paul Philpott lands a double at Star Pelaw, while Towcester hosts a strong JR Racing Juvenile Classic card, featuring wins for Romeo Alliance and Doohoma Princess.


Star Pelaw Open Race Recap
Knockard Joe and Toomervara Sheera landed a double on the night for trainer Paul Philpott at Star Pelaw Greyhound Stadium.
Joe was sent off as the 11/10 favourite in the Star Pelaw 590 Stayers Trophy open race and duly obliged, leading at the fifth bend before powering clear to claim a two-length victory in 36.29.
Toomervara Sheera caused an upset in the Star Sports #bettingpeople Open Race over the 435-metre trip, winning at 10s and beating 11/10 favourite Chippy Chase, who finished second. Sheera paced up well in the corner from his wide draw in T6 and never saw a rival as he made all in 25.92.
Elsewhere on the racing card:
- Popper Duke (10/11) took the 590 Maiden at 6.11, making all in 37.10 after holding off Maes Maya.
- Basher landed Division Two of the Star Pelaw 245 Maiden Sprint at 6.46 from T6 in 14.81, with 4/9 favourite Savana Pink second.
- Division One at 7.24 was won by Burrow Bell in 14.50, leading all the way. Savana Spiderman was second at 15/8.
- Heathmill Barron won the Star Pelaw 435 Maiden Trophy at 8.34 from T4 in 26.22 after forcing favourite Tassie Twirl to check early. Forecast paid £87.33.
- Bitzer Maloney landed the Star Pelaw 245 Sprint Trophy at 8.52 with a 14.48 run after breaking smartly from T4.
Towcester Open Race Recap
Over at Towcester Greyhound Stadium, attention was on the Category One JR Racing Juvenile Classic, with the Patrick Janssens trio Romeo Alliance, Romeo Ability, and Not So Steady lining up from traps 1, 2, and 4.
Not So Steady led early, but Romeo Alliance swept past down the back and powered clear to win by three-and-a-half lengths. Romeo Ability completed the one-two-three for the kennel in third.
Other results from the Towcester card:
- Doohoma Princess made all in the Towcester Stayers Open Race at 2.16 from T3 in 43.53. Bank Of Granda was second after meeting some trouble.
- In the Towcester Standard at 2.33, Gripwell Peg led round but Too Wright powered home late to win from T1 in 29.71.
- The Towcester Maiden at 3.11 went to Makeit Blondie, who made all from T6 in 29.48. Kalukis Gamble finished second; 4/7 favourite Vermithor was third.
- Romeo Steel dominated the Towcester Standard Open at 4.26 from T6 in 29.06, making it seven straight wins. Newinn Sharky was second, Crossfield Ranger third.
